This was by far one of the most unexpected best trips of my life.
I’d never even heard of ‘Via Ferrata’ or ‘Canyoning’ trails before this trip with Radius Tours to the heart of the Maritime Alps in France. The trip was action packed, from hanging off 300m cliffs to jumping off waterfalls and exploring caves.
I had to plan my photography gear very meticulously and selectively to be able to shoot in both wet and dry environments on the same day. A lot of the shooting was done hanging off of cliffs, so every piece of photo gear had to be secured and tied properly to me.
Most of the film was shot with the Canon 1Dx, which is the best travel camera for professional photographers. No other camera can provide such high quality stills and videos in a single, weather sealed body. Well, at least until the Canon R5 came around 😉
I also did a lot of iPhone photography throughout the trails, which is by far the best camera phone for travel photography. It’s amazing the content I was able to create from a phone camera, some of which I even used in the final video! I had to make a special safety rig to keep the iPhone from falling out of my hands and into the abyss/raging river below me throughout most of the shoot.
